Tasks
Cooperative efforts of partners will be concentrated both on the use of polarised neutrons as an elementary magnetic probe in condensed matter investigations and the application of the Larmor precession (LP) technique for development of a new generation of LP-based neutron scattering instruments, methods and devices. This will allow for further improvements in the use of polarized neutrons in neutron scattering and to construction of new generation of neutron scattering instruments using polarized neutrons (high-resolution spectrometers, diffractometers and reflectometers), both have no analogous either in Europe or worldwide.
Six tasks have been identified within which we will extend the state-of-the-art in the area of polarized neutron scattering and ensure continuing European pre-eminence in this field:
Task 1: Developments of 3-dimensional analysis of polarization in inelastic/quasielastic neutron scattering, diffraction and reflectometry
Task 2: Further developments in neutron spin echo technique
Task 3: Developments of NSE (NRSE and NSE) technique for an increase in the resolution of inelastic scattering instruments.
Task 4: Development of thin film based Larmor precession devices
Task 5: Novel Larmor precession based instrumentation for reflectometry, SANS and diffraction
Task 6: New Larmor precession based methods
Task 7: Management, dissemination and explotation.
We are also planning an extensive education and training program realized through the school on polarized neutron scattering that will be held regularly at one of the leading European neutron scattering centres, providing participants with a comprehensive theoretical knowledge and wide possibilities to carry out hand-on experiments in polarised neutron scattering.
